Welcome to Drive Without lessons

We are here to help learner drivers pass their test with no professional lessons. The aim is to provide guidance and resources for individuals who are preparing for their driving test independently.

The site has been setup following a 3 month period of teaching my son to drive and with my daughter just over 6 months away from driving. My son turned 17 in August 2023, not realising the impact of covid on lesson availability and driving tests, I had left booking lessons too late. Of the five instructors I contacted, only 2 got back to me and despite them saying they would look to fit my son in, we never heard from them again.

The only option remaining was to coach my son in driving, I am not a driving instructor, so he wouldn't be getting professional lessons,  but through reading the highway code and watching YouTube videos with him, coaching was an option. You can read more about coaching here.

Anyway, 78 days later, 1 failed test in Southampton, 1 professional driving lesson, many hours behind the wheel and the job was done.

Within the site are hints and tips gathered through the process, most of the pages are in a blog/forum style so others can add their experiences or links to tips they have found. Happy reading and please remember this is supposed to be helping each other not a place for hate.
